Freeze Thaw Freeze

It’s been cold here, really cold.  Then, a few days later it rose above freezing and the snow we had melted and flooded the fields.  Then, a few days later it got cold again.  Not quite as cold as it had been, but definitely colder than it was.  So what does a heavy snowfall (we had so many inches it was being measured in feet) look like after it melts, freezes, melts and freezes again?

This!  How incredible is that?  Just weather and wind (along with the help of some uneven ground and corn stalks) and magic appears.  Cold magic, but beautiful none the less.  🙂

Simplicity of life

Red Tree

Sometimes, I try to stop and find the most simple thing I can and then lose myself in it…the beauty of it without all the complicated mess of camera settings and shutter speeds.  I just hold the camera to my eye and let it do it’s job without my interference.  The photos don’t always turn out perfect, but in that itself…the kinda do.

One single moment in time, captured and shared.  This is why I love what I do here.

Sky, sky, Snake

I’ll post the sky/tree shots first so those of you who dislike snakes (tiny, cute ones) can skip the last shot.  🙂

And now for the adorable little snake family hiding in the leaves.  These guys are harmless and are so tiny, you are lucky to actually see one.  They move fast too; however, it’s always AWAY from you so I’m all good with them. 🙂

Blue

This guy lives with two other Jays in the trees behind my deck.  They are the loudest things when the sun starts to set that it starts to sound like a singing contest.  All the wild birds around here love to holler at sundown but these Jays take it to the next level.  Still – I can’t help but love them.  I think this is the juvenile of the group, but it’s hard to tell from this angle.

Spriiiiiiiiing!

I love spring more than any other time of year.   The colours around here amaze me.  I can’t wait until the lilacs bloom.  Those beauties have more shades of purple than seems possible.

These shots were taken at a public park downtown and along my drive to work.  Some only last for a week or two before they burst into full green, so it’s a slim moment in time that they need to be captured.

Flower power

I love flowers as much as the next person but I tend not to photograph them too often. Sometimes the sheer beauty of them just as they are makes me not want to interrupt what they are sending out to the world.

I do however like to digitally enhance pics of flowers to make them look entirely unlike themselves. Adding perspective rarely hurts.  🙂

Notes in harmony with love

I woke up at 11 today.  My son was still out cold, enjoying a good sleep in, and my hubs was out on the deck getting some nice warm sun on his skin.  I drank my tea in the sunshine and all within 30 min, captured a heck of a lot of happy little creatures.

Below:   If you look carefully, you’ll see my subject flying away.IMG_6131

Everyone seems willing to share. IMG_6142

These two have a nest in the trees – awaiting their little ones.  I love their song more than any other. IMG_6182

Fly by!IMG_6203

I think he’s my little woodpecker friend.  Maybe not – light was right at him and it was hard to get a clear shot but I LOVED how this turned out.IMG_6318

There’s the woodpecker, sharing nicely. IMG_6339

Can’t see the birds for all the SPRING! YAYYYY!IMG_6363

And, Finally – the little Robin who gives me hell every time I try to take his photo.  I have countless shots of him screaming at me to bugger off and let him rip up my lawn so he can find is dinner.  This is him sitting smugly on my roof.  He know’s I’m taking the photo but he’s pretending not to care.  IMG_6372-001
