Freeze Thaw Freeze

It’s been cold here, really cold.  Then, a few days later it rose above freezing and the snow we had melted and flooded the fields.  Then, a few days later it got cold again.  Not quite as cold as it had been, but definitely colder than it was.  So what does a heavy snowfall (we had so many inches it was being measured in feet) look like after it melts, freezes, melts and freezes again?

This!  How incredible is that?  Just weather and wind (along with the help of some uneven ground and corn stalks) and magic appears.  Cold magic, but beautiful none the less.  🙂

The colours fade

Fall 2017 - 1005

There’s such a beautiful array of colours around here in the fall but it is always such a fleeting thing.  There are usually three or four good weekends between

*Everything is still green with only a little splash of colour showing through* to *everything is dead and/or covered in snow* in a matter of days.

The snow IS beautiful to photograph and being out of the city allows for many nice shots of snow piled atop leaves and branches that haven’t been disturbed by humans.  Ice storms are, although terrifying and dangerous, spectacular when a chance to capture an entire everything encased in glass/ice comes along, but, everything considered, winter is really just a lot of white balancing with the camera and dead looking trees.  There’s still a ton of beauty out there though – it just takes a bit of patience and some warm boots to find.  🙂

Spriiiiiiiiing!

I love spring more than any other time of year.   The colours around here amaze me.  I can’t wait until the lilacs bloom.  Those beauties have more shades of purple than seems possible.

These shots were taken at a public park downtown and along my drive to work.  Some only last for a week or two before they burst into full green, so it’s a slim moment in time that they need to be captured.

Sunrise

I am having so much fun with my new camera.  The telephoto lens I picked up has made taking photos, which I loved before, the most relaxing and fulfilling activity I could have ever imagined.  This weekend I got up with the sun and captured some beautiful sunrise shots.  Nothing fancy, little editing aside from a bit of light and contrast adjustment and all the beauty nature has to offer, one moment captured in time.

Reflect

Inside out, upside down, multiplied magnificence.

I turned it on its side to use as wallpaper for my phone. I just bought a fantastic new lens for my Canon and the format needs adjusting so I can take pics that will turn the right way around on mobile.
