Magic

A little digital magic makes the scene dance with light. Fun ways to spend a few minutes making something no one has ever seen.

I wish I could project my words this way, visual to anyone who wanted to see. Photos are another form of words I suppose. There is something wonderful about everyone being able to interpret what the see without my own thoughts and emotions clouding or guiding their own.

Another kind of Deer

My husband travels quite a bit for work.  He happened upon a stable one day as he drove to a job that was quite out-of-the-way and almost ditched his truck in excitement.  (He’s amazing – always on the hunt for new photo material for me!)

King of the paddock

This, my blog friends, is a Reindeer.  He seemed to be the only male in the herd, so although I don’t know much of these guys and their family structure, it appears that one male gets to hang with all the ladies in his sizable herd.

The Ladies

I did a bit of research on these guys and I’m not sure if they are pregnant yet or just in the beginnings of the mating season.  The male is in molt (the stuff hanging off his antlers in the first shot is what’s sluffed off so far) so I’m guessing mating or babies are soon to come.

They heard every click of my shutter – amazing hearing as I was a long way away – telephoto lens in full use for these shots!

It surprises me each time I encounter an animal that is not necessarily indigenous to the area we live in.  It’s amazing to see how animals can adapt to their surroundings and thrive when assisted.  I have a feeling these guys would overheat in the summer if it were not for the farmer who likely shears them like sheep to keep them cool.

The only thing that I disliked about this particular adventure was the fact that I got to spend time observing a herd of animals I’ve never seen in person before, but the entire backdrop for this photo shoot?

Windmills and towers are not included in a Reindeer natural habitat. 😦 Until now, I suppose.

Spriiiiiiiiing!

I love spring more than any other time of year.   The colours around here amaze me.  I can’t wait until the lilacs bloom.  Those beauties have more shades of purple than seems possible.

These shots were taken at a public park downtown and along my drive to work.  Some only last for a week or two before they burst into full green, so it’s a slim moment in time that they need to be captured.

Friendship

There is nothing so wonderful as knowing someone cares.

Beautiful flowers from a beautiful friend so easily fills my heart.

This is the third time this week some lovely soul has brought me flowers to brighten my day.   More photos to come on those, but these gorgeous tulips took my breath away.

Flower power

I love flowers as much as the next person but I tend not to photograph them too often. Sometimes the sheer beauty of them just as they are makes me not want to interrupt what they are sending out to the world.

I do however like to digitally enhance pics of flowers to make them look entirely unlike themselves. Adding perspective rarely hurts.  🙂

Notes in harmony with love

I woke up at 11 today.  My son was still out cold, enjoying a good sleep in, and my hubs was out on the deck getting some nice warm sun on his skin.  I drank my tea in the sunshine and all within 30 min, captured a heck of a lot of happy little creatures.

Below:   If you look carefully, you’ll see my subject flying away.IMG_6131

Everyone seems willing to share. IMG_6142

These two have a nest in the trees – awaiting their little ones.  I love their song more than any other. IMG_6182

Fly by!IMG_6203

I think he’s my little woodpecker friend.  Maybe not – light was right at him and it was hard to get a clear shot but I LOVED how this turned out.IMG_6318

There’s the woodpecker, sharing nicely. IMG_6339

Can’t see the birds for all the SPRING! YAYYYY!IMG_6363

And, Finally – the little Robin who gives me hell every time I try to take his photo.  I have countless shots of him screaming at me to bugger off and let him rip up my lawn so he can find is dinner.  This is him sitting smugly on my roof.  He know’s I’m taking the photo but he’s pretending not to care.  IMG_6372-001

Spring beaches

We went to the beach yesterday as it was a clear, sunny spring day and there is nothing that calls to me and my heart like bodies of water.  I spent hours….days…of my childhood and teenaged years staring out into the lakes that surround me, watching the endless motion and pull of the tides.  I found much happiness yesterday, in those memories and present moments both.
